It's been a while since a brand-new MCU production was launched on Disney Plus, with the most recent being The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in November.
You can see why we're ecstatic to see new episodes of Marvel's Secret Invasion, the series that finally puts Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury in the limelight 15 years after he originally appeared in the Iron Man post-credits sequence.
In this film, he is accompanied by a brilliant ensemble that includes Cobie Smulders, Olivia Colman, and Emilia Clarke, and will be shown taking against a rogue faction of Skrulls who want to take over Earth by replacing individuals in positions of authority.
But, now that the first episode is released, how long will we have to wait for episode 2? When will the next episodes be released? And what is the complete season's release schedule?
Secret Invasion has how many episodes?
This season of Secret Invasion will include a total of six episodes. This places it with other Marvel Disney Plus programmes such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and Ms Marvel.
WandaVision and What If...? have been the outliers thus far. and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, each of which had nine episodes with shorter runtimes.
In Secret Invasion, who killed Maria Hill?
In the first episode of Secret Invasion, Fury and Hill, the former deputy director and commander of SHIELD - essentially Fury's right-hand lady - had a romantic reunion. When symptoms of battle appear on Earth, she summons him from his space station at Talos' request - but she's not confident he's ready for the fight any more.
Smulders recently stated during a press conference that "I think the relationship is quite strained" since "[Hill] has been calling and [Fury] hasn't been answering."
The threat, it turns out, has come from a rogue gang of Skrulls. If you recall from Captain Marvel, Fury offered to assist in finding a new home for the Skrulls. The pledge still stands after many years.
Worse, Fury entirely abandoned Earth to travel to his space station, so in the Skrulls' view, he's broken his vow to them.
In Episode 1, Fury, Hill, and Talos travel to Moscow to try to stop Gravik from starting a conflict between the United States and Russia in order to capture Earth as a new home for the Skrulls - and basically wipe out the human species in the process.
Despite the assistance of Talos' daughter, G'iah (Clarke), they are unable to stop Gravik, who detonates explosives in the heart of Moscow.
The Skrulls invaded Earth for what reason?
Following Fury's pledge to the Skrulls in Captain Marvel, it's clear that all they want is a place to call home. But they approach it in very different ways.
Gravik, as Talos established in episode 1, was not pleased with Fury's departure from Earth. He is determined to provide the Skrulls a home on Earth and builds a refuge for them called "New Skrullos."
His purpose becomes evident as the series progresses, but on the surface, he appears to be ready to wipe off the human species in order to make room for the Skrulls - and he appears to have the means to do it.
The MCU's Maria's reappearance is discussed by Cobie Smulders.
Smulders discussed Maria's return and how her relationship with Fury has altered since the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame during a press conference for Secret Invasion.
Smulders said, "It was really exciting to come back, but speaking of strain, I think the relationship is quite strained because she keeps calling and he doesn't answer."
After being brought back from The Snap, Fury opted to depart Earth, choosing to spend time in space rather than confront life on the earth. Thanos also deleted Maria, but Smulders claimed that she had a drastically different reaction.
